The police superintendent expressed his sorrow, describing it as yet another unfortunate day for the city.

“The officer was the victim of the type of crime that he was working against to keep people safe in this city,” police Superintendent Larry Snelling said. “Another sad day for the Chicago Police Department.”

According to Snelling, Huesca, who was almost 31 years old, was still in uniform but had something covering it, which is typical for off-duty police officers.

The details surrounding the shooting remain uncertain. According to Snelling, the police investigation is still in its early stages.

Mayor Brandon Johnson met with Huesca’s mom and uncle on Sunday morning to reassure them that “my administration is fully behind them as they deal with this terrible loss.”
