Lyft Driver Shot Dead by Atlanta Cop, said “tried to Recruit Him to a Gay Fraternity”: Authorities

A police officer in Atlanta has been arrested and charged with murder after fatally shooting a Lyft driver who was driving him home, according to authorities.

Koby Minor, 34, was arrested early Wednesday in Union City, an Atlanta suburb, and is currently being held without bond, according to Fulton County Jail records. A 35-year-old man named Reginald Folks from Atlanta was tragically killed, according to the county medical examiner’s office.

No attorney was listed in the court records to provide comment on the charges of murder and aggravated assault. Despite attempts to find a working phone number for family members, no success was achieved.

According to an arrest affidavit, a woman who noticed Minor waving for help after the shooting shared that Minor informed her about the Lyft driver’s affiliation with a gay fraternity and his alleged attempt to recruit him. Minor expressed concerns of being kidnapped.

A minor informed the police that he requested a Lyft after departing from an Atlanta police officer’s residence in the early hours of Wednesday morning. While driving, an individual reported to the police that they overheard people speaking on the phone in a language they were unfamiliar with.

According to the television station, Minor requested Folks to halt the car so that he could exit. However, when he attempted to get out at a red light, he encountered a problem – the door was locked and refused to open.

A minor informed the police that he was uncertain about the driver’s sexual orientation, but he fired approximately three shots when the individual reached into the back seat. Following the incident, Minor shattered a window and swiftly left the vehicle.

Minor was on unpaid leave at the time following an arrest for drug charges on Christmas Day last year. Minor had been employed by the Atlanta Police Department since 2018 and decided to resign abruptly on Wednesday.
