Chicago Mother Sentenced to 5 Decades of Prison Term after She Killed a Pregnant Teen and Removed the Baby from Womb

Chicago, IL: A Chicago woman was given a 50-year jail term for killing a pregnant teen who was nine months along in her pregnancy. The victim had her unborn child removed from her body by the perpetrator.

Clarisa Figueroa pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. She was sentenced 50 years in prison. The killer was sentenced to jail after five years of the alleged murder of 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez on April 23, 2019.

Judge Peggy Chiampas of Cook County wanted to know if Figueroa knew she couldn’t get out of prison early and would have to complete the whole sentence.

“Yes,” Figueroa responded as per FOX News.

Desiree Figueroa, Figueroa’s daughter, acknowledged to aiding her mother in the complex murder plot, which led to Figueroa’s guilty plea. Desiree was also charged and sentenced to thirty years in jail after she testified against her mother.

According to the authorities, the conspiracy hatched after Figueroa’s desperate need for a newborn child followed the natural death of her older son.

19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez

She allegedly shared an ultrasound and images of a baby-themed nursery on Facebook, according to the authorities.

Ochoa-Lope met her on a Facebook group for expectant mothers in March. It is alleged that Figueroa misled Ochoa-Lopez about her pregnancy. Following a Facebook post offering free baby clothes, the mother and daughter allegedly invited the 19-year-old victim to their Chicago home.

An earlier version of this story stated that Clarisa Figueroa strangled Ochoa-Lopez and then removed the baby from her womb with a coaxial cable.

The baby was removed after Desiree Figueroa confessed to giving her mother a kitchen knife.

Ochoa-Lopez had gone to the home of the Figueroas, according to the detectives who were looking into her disappearance.

Finding Ochoa-Lopez’s vehicle close to Figueroa’s house led them to a trash can outside the house, where they discovered her dead. Figueroa lied to 911 and said she had just given birth and her baby wasn’t breathing later on.

The baby was subjected to DNA testing after nurses became suspicious upon his transport to the hospital by paramedics.

Ochoa-Lopez and her spouse were confirmed to be the parents of the infant through the testing. Yovanny Jadiel Lopez passed away in June of 2019—months after being born.

Cops and prosecutors say that Clarisa Figueroa lied to her lover Piotr Bobak and made him think he was the father.

After admitting guilt to obstruction of justice, Bobak tidied up the crime scene and received a four-year prison sentence. Last year, he was granted parole and released.
