EXCLUSIVE: Juvenile Human Smuggler Shot After West Texas Police Chase near Border

May 9, 2023: Law enforcement shot a juvenile human smuggler who was trying to take five migrants away from the border after he led them on a chase through a rural county in west Texas.

After being taken to a hospital in the neighboring city of Del Rio, the wounded driver was flown by helicopter to a critical care unit in San Antonio. As of the time of publication, his condition is unknown. According to reports, the driver was hit once in the arm and twice in the chest.

Five suspected migrants fled onto a nearby ranch before the driver pulled off the road, according to the source.

The source who wishes to stay anonymous also said that the shooting started early on Monday when police noticed a suspicious car close to Brackettville, Texas. In rural Kinney County, the white Ford sedan’s driver led a 10-mile pursuit on Farm to Market Road 674.

Brad Coe, the sheriff for Kinney County, acknowledged the incident but provided no further information or commentary. The Texas Rangers are still looking into the incident.

The increase in people smugglers using nearby roads has proven difficult for the Kinney County Sheriff’s Office to control. The State provides support to the small law enforcement agency in an effort to reduce illegal traffic and the associated damages.
