Troopers and the Lehighton Borough Police Department have confirmed that at 3:30 p.m. on the day of the murder, officers were called to the residence of Whitehead Jr. in response to a report of an assault in progress.
The victim was discovered at the site with injuries that were endangering their life, according to the police. After being transported to a hospital, troopers said that he passed away.
A criminal complaint states that the assailant, who was dressed in all black and wore a “Scream” mask, repeatedly slashed the victim with a battery-operated chainsaw before stabbing him in the skull with a fixed-blade knife.
According to authorities, officers from various departments rushed to the location to identify the individual using the disguise. Police were able to locate Moyer’s residence thanks to surveillance footage from the area, the affidavit states, and they apprehended him without incident.
According to the troopers’ account in the complaint, Moyer went to Whitehead’s house armed “to scare him” because he thought Whitehead had killed many people.
As the complaint progressed, Moyer informed investigators that he assaulted Whitehead, stabbed him in the skull, and then went home to watch a movie.
While speaking with his sister, Moyer acknowledged to the troopers that he had planned to murder Whitehead Jr. After the murder, he hid the chain saw in his attic and the knife in a desk drawer.
On Monday, Moyer did not post bond and was still detained at the Carbon County Correctional Facility. Whether he has retained legal representation was immediately unclear.
A spokeswoman for the Carbon County District Court confirmed that Wednesday is the day of his preliminary hearing for the felony charge.
