Memphis, Tennessee — A man allegedly threatened to shoot people with an AK-style rifle outside a Midtown restaurant on Saturday, according to Memphis police.
At 6:30 p.m. on April 19, officers responded to an aggravated assault at Frida’s Mexican Restaurant, 1718 Madison Avenue.
Police were told that after a verbal altercation, a man with an AK-style rifle threatened to “spray all of y’all,” implying that he would shoot employees and customers.
According to MPD, camera footage showed the man with two women and displaying his gun outside the eatery.
The woman, armed with a revolver, tried to persuade him to return to the vehicle.
According to reports, the suspects fled the scene in a newer model black Chevrolet Traverse, maybe with a CarMax tag on the front bumper. The male suspect dressed in a black hat, black t-shirt, black shorts, and black and white shoes.
The general manager of Frida’s responded to WREG via email, emphasising that, contrary to police reports, the incident outside the restaurant was not directed at employees or customers.
“To be clear, no firearms were ever found inside Frida’s Restaurante Mexicano. A private party was dining comfortably in our restaurant. After the group exited, an argument erupted in the parking lot. During the altercation, one person retrieved a weapon from a vehicle and threatened members of his own group. “He never entered our restaurant with the weapon, and the threat was not directed at any customer or staff member,” said Jesse Gonzalez, the manager.
He stated that Frida’s is a family-owned business that prioritises the safety of its guests.
Police ask that anyone who was a victim of this incident contact the Crump Station at 901-636-4793.
