SAN DIEGO — A man had to be saved Tuesday night after the car he was driving went off a cliff and into the Pacific Ocean at La Jolla’s popular tourist spot.

At 8:08 p.m., the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department was called to 1200 Coast Boulevard in La Jolla Cove to check on a car that had gone off the road and crashed into a rock.

When help arrived, the car was in the water at the base of the cliff. In the sand below, pieces of the car could be seen.

The man had to be pulled out of the car.

The man has not been named by the police, and they have not said anything new about his state. They have said that he is thought to be in his 70s.

The police and firemen will likely be at the scene for a few hours while they pull the car out of the water.
