Course objective
To teach students how to create high-quality video content and podcasts: from concept to editing and publication. Students learn how to work with video and audio equipment, scriptwriting, interviewing, editing, sound recording, and content promotion.
Course program
Block 1. Introduction to video and podcast journalism (1 week)
Basics of video journalism and podcasting;
Types of video and audio content: news, interviews, reporting, storytelling;
Content planning: ideas, script, storyboard;
Getting to know the equipment: cameras, smartphones, microphones, editing software.
Block 2. Script and preparation for recording (1 week)
How to write a script for a video and podcast;
Podcast structure: introduction, main part, conclusion;
Preparing questions for interviews;
Shooting planning: locations, lighting, sound, props.
Block 3. Working with video (2 weeks)
Basics of filming: angles, composition, camera movement;
Lighting and sound when filming: tips and life hacks;
Filming interviews and reports;
Video editing: basic programs (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, iMovie);
Adding subtitles, titles, and graphics;
Practical assignment: creating a short video (1–3 minutes).
Block 4. Working with podcasts (1 week)
Preparing audio content: recording equipment and software (Audacity, GarageBand, Anchor);
Microphone setup, voice recording, noise reduction;
Audio editing, adding music and effects;
Practical assignment: recording and releasing a podcast (5–10 minutes).
Block 5. Publication and promotion (1 week)
- How to publish videos and podcasts online;
- Basics of SEO and content optimization;
- Social networks and distribution platforms: YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts;
- Analysis of statistics and feedback from the audience;
- Practical assignment: publishing a project on the school’s platform.
