Wrong Way Crash Sent 5 To Hospital near San Diego; 1 in Custody for DUI

San Diego, CA: An early Friday morning wrong-way collision on state Route 163 in the Hillcrest area resulted in multiple hospitalizations.

Two cars collided on the freeway close to Robinson Avenue which resulted in several injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol incident log.

As per the authorities, a white Mazda traveling north in the southbound SR-163 lanes collided with a gray Toyota Camry. The accident happened at around 3:20 a.m.

Emergency personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to free the four trapped occupants of the Camry from the debris.

The injuries are not life-threatening and all the injured persons are expected to survive. The driver of the Mazda, according to the authorities, was also sent to the hospital for treatment before being brought into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.

CHP officers have opened an investigation after cleaning the debris. The traffic in the area was disturbed for a while but things are moving clearly in the area.
