Woman Arrested after she was carrying a Loaded Gun and tried to board an International Flight in Richmond

Richmond, VA: A woman has been arrested by the authorities after she was carrying a loaded weapon in her luggage.
On April 3, at Richmond International Airport, TSA agents discovered a loaded weapon in the carry-on luggage of a Yorktown lady, leading to her arrest. According to the TSA, the 9mm handgun had ten rounds, one of which was still in the chamber.
Officers from the TSA conducted extra checks of the woman’s carry-on luggage after an X-ray machine detected the firearm as she entered the security checkpoint.

Only firearms that are properly packed and declared at the airline ticket counter will passengers be allowed to travel with them in their checked luggage. All weapons, including ammunition, must be unloaded and stored in a secure, hard-sided container. The next step is to declare the case at the airline check-in desk after locking it.
Travelers who are found in possession of firearms or firearm components at an airport security checkpoint may be subject to a federal civil penalty since the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) retains the authority to impose such a penalty on those individuals.
Carrying a pistol into a checkpoint carries civil penalties that, depending on mitigating circumstances, can go into the thousands of dollars. Because a concealed carry permit does not authorize the transportation of a firearm onto an airplane, this regulation applies to all passengers regardless of whether they possess such permission or not.
