Wisconsin Woman Killed her Friend after giving her Water Loaded with Bottles of Toxic Eyedrop, Also Maxed out all her Credit Cards and took out Several Loan in Victim’s Name

Franklin, WI: A woman killed her friend after she gave her friend a drink. The drink was loaded with numerous bottles of eyedrops. The involved eyedrop had a toxic substance that killed the friend.

The woman from Wisconsin was given a life sentence with the chance of parole after being found guilty of killing her companion by overdosing on eye drops.

Franklin resident Jessy Kurczewski, 40, was found guilty of murder in November for the 2018 poisoning of Pewaukee resident Lynn Hernan, 62. Two counts of criminal theft were also found against her.

Kurczewski was accused of stealing approximately $300,000 from the salon, and the prosecution contended that he murdered Hernan to evade capture.

On Friday, Kurczewski was handed a maximum sentence of five years for each of the theft offenses, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Kurczewski will not be eligible for release for a minimum of 40 years due to his consecutive sentences and the minimum of 30 years on the murder conviction.

Judge Jennifer Dorow of the Waukesha County Circuit Court informed Kurczewski that she intended to delay Kurczewski’s parole eligibility until she was far older than Hernan was when she was killed.

The judge reportedly told the newspaper, “You took away future memories, birthdays, luncheons, phone calls.”. I believe you believed you could get away with even more thievery because you were so excellent at it.

Kurczewski reportedly found Hernan motionless in her unit on October 3, 2018, and contacted 911 about it, according to the Associated Press. According to earlier reports from the Journal Sentinel, Hernan was discovered in a recliner, with broken tablets on her chest and multiple pharmaceutical bottles all over her body.

Hernan had been receiving care from Kurczewski, who claimed to be a family friend, due to his health problems, according to the newspaper. Kurczewski stated that Hernan may have developed suicidal thoughts.

Hernan was found to have a lethal level of tetrahydrozoline, a component in Visine eye drops, which prompted the medical examiner to conclude that her death was a homicide. Even after following the drops’ instructions to the letter, Hernan’s blood concentration of the medicine was far higher than what should be.

According to officials, Kurczewski sparked suspicion when she repeatedly contacted the medical examiner’s office, displaying a “great deal of interest and curiosity” on Hernan’s toxicological results.

It was later discovered by investigators that Hernan’s credit score had dropped significantly in the months leading up to her passing as a result of multiple credit cards that had been maxed up in her name. A loan was obtained in Hernan’s name, and numerous checks for substantial sums had been made to Kurczewski.

According to the prosecution, Kurczewski used forgeries to obtain the loans and credit cards.

According to a criminal complaint that was referenced by the AP, Kurczewski was interrogated multiple times regarding the funds and the eye drops. Kurczewski then proposed that Hernan had consumed a glass of vodka the evening before her demise.

The complaint states that she then confessed to providing Hernan with a water bottle that was filled with six bottles of Visine. The witness maintained that she had seen Hernan consume drinks laced with Visine previously and hence did not fear for her friend’s life from the drops.

The defense maintained during the trial that Hernan’s death was caused by other medications she was taking, rather than the tetrahydrozoline. Additionally, it was said that Hernan, who had persistent physical discomfort, began frivolously squandering funds following a palliative care session that prompted suicidal thoughts.

Kurczewski denied wrongdoing and expressed her innocence on Friday, stating that her prior lawyers had been incompetent and that she had not received a fair trial. According to the Journal Sentinel, eight defense attorneys have dropped out of the case since June 2021.

Hernan committed suicide, according to the defendant.
