Milwaukee, WI: A 28-year-old woman in Wisconsin has been apprehended for the alleged murder of her husband. The victim was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the back of his head, and his body was discovered in a cemetery.
Cassandra J. Hult was arrested last month and is facing a charge of first-degree reckless homicide in connection with the shooting death of Jose Santiago in 2020, according to court records.
Prosecutors have also added a modifier regarding the use of a dangerous weapon, potentially leading to a higher maximum penalty if she is found guilty.
A jogger made a disturbing discovery on March 23, 2020. Santiago’s body was found inside a car parked in the St. Adalbert Cemetery on South 13th Street, as reported by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. A jogger who frequently passed through the cemetery made a disturbing discovery when they noticed a car that appeared to have been abandoned for several days. Curiosity getting the better of them, they approached the vehicle and were shocked to find a lifeless body inside.
Investigators from the Milwaukee Police Department arrived at the location and concluded that Santiago had tragically suffered a single gunshot wound to the back of his head. Authorities found several items inside the vehicle, including a spent .38 casing, two soft drink cups from McDonald’s, and a receipt indicating the purchase of the drinks at 12:29 p.m. on March 22, 2020.
According to a report, the police conducted tests on the items found in the car. Surprisingly, they discovered that a straw from one of the McDonald’s cups had Santiago’s DNA and Hult’s fingerprints on it.
According to reports, cellphone location data indicated that both Hult and Santiago were near the cemetery shortly before Santiago’s body was found.
During an interview with the police, Hult revealed that she discovered text conversations on Santiago’s phone with other women on the morning of March 22, 2020. The couple had been married for approximately a year and a half.
According to reports, Hult claimed that during their confrontation about the messages, Santiago became argumentative and ultimately forced her to leave their car. She later stated that she visited her grandmother’s house.
Hult was interviewed multiple times, but the investigation eventually reached a dead end and Hult relocated to a different state as reported by Law&Crime.
In September 2021, Hult found herself living with another woman and her daughter in Arizona. During that time, an intense argument reportedly took place between Hult and the woman. Following the altercation, Hult reportedly contacted the woman via FaceTime and made disturbing threats, including a mention of a past incident in Milwaukee.
According to reports, the daughter informed the police that Hult confessed to the murder of her husband.
In addition, a former boyfriend of Hult’s reportedly informed the police that during their time living together in California, she confessed to him on multiple occasions that she was responsible for Santiago’s death.
Hult was taken into custody on May 6 after authorities obtained an arrest warrant. She is currently being held on a bond of $500,000. Her court appearance is set for July 10 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.
