Weekend Events in San Diego: Enjoy the First Weekend of 2024

This weekend is special. Not only because this is the first weekend of 2024, but also because of many exciting events coming up in San Diego this weekend.

Friday Events

Stand-up Comedy Event by Dustin Ybarra

Dustin Ybarra is a stand-up comedian who has appeared on Comedy Central, CBS, Fox, and ABC. He will be performing at the historic Gaslamp comedy-club.

  • Venue & Timings: American Comedy Co. on Friday, 8 pm.
  • Cost- $10 for one ticket

A Dance Party- Swiftie Fan Special

For all the Swifties who missed the Eras Tour or those who attended but aren’t getting enough, House of Blues is throwing a consolation party for people who are eighteen years of age and up.

  • Venue & Timings: House of Blues downtown on Friday, 9 pm.
  • Cost: $15 to $22.50 for one ticket

16th Annual SoundON Festival

Each year, San Diego New Music and the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library present an event honoring San Diego composer Adam Greene’s creative output.

  • Venue & Timings: Athenaeum Art Center in Logan Heights on Friday, 7 pm.
  • Cost: Individual concert tickets from $12 to $30.

Saturday Events

 San Diego Gulls vs. Bakersfield Condors

The Gulls and Condors will play a two-game series in town on Friday and Saturday.

  • Venue & Timings: Pechanga Arena on Saturday at 6 pm. 
  • Cost– $18-$119 depending on the seats.

Spring Valley Swap Meet

The Spring Valley swap meet has been going strong since 1970 and includes food, vintage items, flowers, and who knows what else.

  • Venue & Timings: 6377 Quarry Rd., Spring Valley on Saturday, 7 am to 3 pm, and Sunday, 7 am to 3 pm.
  • Cost – $1 for entry

San Diego Brew Festival

The 13th annual San Diego Brew Festival offers unlimited tastings from 70 breweries, live music, and a variety of popular local food trucks.

  • Venue & Timings: NTC Park in Liberty Station on Saturday from 1-4 pm.
  • Cost – $50 for general admission; $65 for an extra hour with specialty pours.

Sunday Events

San Diego Sockers vs Texas Outlaws

The Sockers began this season 5-0 and had the best record in their league for the past two years. This week, there will be a halftime competition between local media members, including our very own Andrew Keatts (god help him if you go).

  • Venue & Timings: Pechanga Arena on Sunday, 5 pm.
  • Cost – $25-$55 depending on the seat.

Lightscape at San Diego Botanic Garden

After a weeklong extension owing to popular demand, Sunday is the last day to view the enchanting holiday light displays around the gardens.

  • Venue & Timings: San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas on Sunday from 5-8:30 pm. 
  • Cost – $29 for adults; $18 for children.
