Uncommon Developers to Expand Affordable Housing Across LA

Uncommon Developers will be expanding an East Hollywood project. The company had proposed the expansion earlier as well. But this time, the updated plan was granted permission for the same.

A report stated that Uncommon Developers recently submitted plans for 1023 N Berendo St., a fully affordable residential development with 131 apartment units.

According to the updated plan, the complex will be six stories high and contain 131 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, along with 33 parking spaces. The most important change is that the completely affordable development will only serve households with low, low, and moderate incomes.

The first plan was submitted in 2022, had a five-story structure with 36 parking spaces underneath 69 residential units. This plan contained eight reasonably priced apartments but was dropped earlier this year.

Uncommon has teamed up with JZA Architecture, a company renowned for its cooperative work with the company, to realize the project’s vision. To satisfy the various needs of the community, the design concept aims for a modern low-rise development that emphasizes both functionality and aesthetics.

The Vermont/Santa Monica Station and Interstate 101 are conveniently close to the project site. The commute from either location is not too long. Additionally, there are several eateries and retail establishments that are close to the property.

More affordable housing is being planned by Uncommon Developers across the Greater Los Angeles region. The company also recently submitted plans for a 245-unit affordable development along Sepulveda Boulevard. The project is also designed by JZA Architecture, and would be situated at 8615-8631 N Sepulveda Blvd. and include 140 parking spaces for cars in addition to the residential units. It would also include 7,200 square feet of open space.
