Northwest Miami-Dade, Florida – A mom and her son have been relocated after a fire destroyed their home.
Angela Delancy claimed she and her family had lived in the home at Northwest 24th Avenue and 95th Street in Northwest Miami-Dade for over 20 years, but an electrical fire on Tuesday night left the property burned, unlivable, and the family devastated.
“They basically grabbed everything from me. “Everything is gone,” Angela exclaimed, in sobs.
She stated that the home is where she and her late spouse raised their family together.
“I have no memory of him being up here,” Angela remarked.
The family stated that Angela and the family cat, Joey, were inside the home when flames and smoke devoured the interior.
Firefighters arrived to the house and discovered the fire affecting the front bedroom window. The fire was soon extinguished and restricted to the main bedroom of the property.
Dewitt Delancy, Angela’s son, hurried over from across the street to assist his mother.
“The flames were hot, and black smoke began to pour out of the room.” I couldn’t see anything because my eyes were blurry, and I felt smoke in my lungs,” he explained.
He stated that his initial inclination was to try to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, but he was unsuccessful.
“I was still trying to hit the fire extinguisher through the window,” Dewitt told me.
As the fire call came in, rescue responders were caught on police radio discussing a downed power line.
Prior to the fire, the family informed 7News that they heard someone cutting trees with an electrical saw on an adjacent property. Angela reported hearing a popping sound before her home’s power went out, and then the fire started.
“Pop, pop, pop, like that,” she exclaimed.
The occasion was so traumatic that Angela needed to be sent to the hospital. The family stated that she is fine and is getting treated for her anxiousness.
The family expressed gratitude for their safety and well-being.
The Red Cross is on the scene and assisting the displaced family.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
