Truck Jackknifed and Crashed into Reservoir in Utah; Driver Dead and Crew Recover Body; Probe launched

A body of a semi-truck driver was recovered by dive crews on Tuesday. The driver had gone missing the day before when his tractor-trailer crashed through a guardrail on Highway 189 in Wasatch County and fell into Deer Creek Reservoir.

A statement from the Utah Department of Public Safety reveals that a semi-truck was heading southbound near mile marker 24 on Monday evening when it suddenly veered off the road, jackknifed, and eventually landed in the water.

The vehicle was transporting propane, which managed to stay afloat. Unfortunately, the tractor portion ended up completely submerged and sank to the bottom of the lake.

Efforts had to be temporarily halted Monday night due to the challenging conditions underwater and the hazardous situation caused by the propane rupture.

Highway 189 along the reservoir was temporarily closed by UHP overnight, but operations resumed the following day.

Officials provided an update on Tuesday morning, expressing their belief that the man had passed away. They stated that they were approaching the incident as a search and recovery operation.

After a few hours, DPS revealed that the driver of the semi was discovered deceased inside the cab while crews were utilizing heavy equipment to extract the vehicle from the reservoir.

Investigation into the cause of the crash was ongoing as of noon on Tuesday.
