The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a severe weather alert early Thursday morning, warning residents of Hamilton, Saratoga, Fulton, and Warren counties about strong thunderstorms. The alert, issued at 1:46 a.m., remains in effect until 2:15 a.m.
According to the NWS, the storms are capable of producing marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) and could cause minor hail damage to vegetation.
“At 1:46 a.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Northville, or 13 miles north of Gloversville, moving east at 60 mph,” the weather service stated.

The alert covers multiple locations, including:
- Northville
- Fairchilds Corners
- Tenantville
- Sweets Crossing
- Lake Luzerne
- Greenfield Center
- Porter Corners
- Corinth
- Batchellerville
And several other communities in the region.
The NWS advises residents to seek shelter indoors if outdoors.

With storms moving through, experts warn that lightning is a major hazard. The U.S. experiences about 25 million lightning strikes annually, with summer being the peak season. Lightning kills approximately 20 people each year.
To stay safe:
- Monitor the sky for dark clouds and listen for thunder.
- If thunder is heard, lightning is nearby—seek shelter indoors immediately.
- Avoid using corded phones, electrical appliances, and plumbing fixtures once inside.
- Stay away from windows and doors.
Residents should remain cautious as storms pass through the region.
