Three apprehended after armed robbery at Sweetwater warehouse leads to officer-involved gunshot and pursuit in Medley

Sweetwater, Florida – Police arrested three guys following an armed robbery at a Sweetwater warehouse, which resulted in an officer-involved shootout and a police pursuit in Medley.

The armed suspects, dressed in Michael Myers masks, stormed into Innova Luxury Works, a staircase and railing design and manufacturing company, late Friday morning.

According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, units responded to a call about 11 a.m., perhaps related to a gunshot.

Sweetwater Police rushed swiftly to the incident.

“The officers arrived on the scene while the crime was being committed, while the robbery was in progress,” said Sweetwater spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta, “and that’s when there was a confrontation, and shots were fired.”

A cellphone video recorded one person sprinting toward a parking lot. The audio appears to have recorded firing.

According to investigators, officers circled the facility in an attempt to locate the criminals within the warehouse.

“They addressed those who were conducting this crime. “Shots were fired,” Zabaleta explained.

One of the three thieves was shot during the incident, but investigators say they did not stop.

According to investigators, the masked guys raced northbound into Medley in a white Mercedes-Benz van after throwing a vest and their masks.

The police pursuit that ensued would result in a crash.

According to investigators, the subjects fled the crash scene on foot.

7Skyforce filmed the finish of the chase, when one of the men was apprehended at gunpoint near 117th Avenue and South River Drive. Paramedics arrested the same individual and treated him for a gunshot wound to the leg before transporting him to an area hospital.

No police officers were hurt.

“Today is a good day, because none of my officers were hurt,” stated Sweetwater Police Chief Sergio Diez.

The FBI has apparently taken up the inquiry. Federal officials were seen photographing alleged victims and gathering evidence at and outside the warehouse.

The roadways around 116th Way and South River Drive were temporarily closed as federal investigators investigated.

The motivation for the robbery is still being investigated.
