Texas Mother Plead Guilty for Exploiting Disabled Son in Midland, Put on Probation
Midland, TX: A Texas mother has entered a guilty plea for all the charges against her. The 47-year-old woman was arrested in August 2023.
According to Laura Nodolf, the district attorney for Midland County, Charlotte Latasha Pegues, has entered a guilty plea for the charge of exploiting a disabled individual for personal benefits.
As part of the plea bargain, Cordarius’s mother agreed to serve a period of probation in exchange for her guilty plea.
Pegues was also given a sentence of ten years in prison; however, this was adjudicated for a duration of five years, which means that she will not be required to serve the prison sentence if she fulfills all of the requirements that are associated with her probation.
Pegues will also be required to pay over $5,000 to Cordarius, which is the amount of money she got from welfare for a disabled individual, according to Assistant District Attorney Timothy Flathers. This is despite the fact that Pegues is no longer responsible for Cordarius’s care.
If Pegues were to breach any of the conditions of her probation, the court would have the ability to sentence her to the maximum amount of time that she may spend in jail.
In the month of January 2023, Cordarius was discovered in Midland, unattended, close to the intersection of Ward Street and Shandon Avenue.
Cordarius was non-verbal, and investigators initially was under the impression that he was a kid. However, he was eventually determined to be Cordarius Lashun Pegues, and he is 24 years old.
Due to the fact that Cordarius is not a child, the District Attorney’s office has stated that the only possible prosecution for Pegues is exploitation as per KCBD.
