Texas Grandmother Leaves 9-Month-Old in Hot Car for 8 Hours, Resulting in Tragic Death
Authorities are looking into the death of a 9-month-old baby who died after being left in a car for about eight hours by its grandmother. The death is thought to have been caused by the heat.
According to a statement from the Beeville Police Department, the incident happened on Wednesday in Beeville, Texas, about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio. The child was discovered unconscious in the child safety seat of their grandmother’s car at around 4 p.m.
“Beeville police detectives are currently on the scene of what appears to be a temperature-related death of a 9-month-old child,” the statement from the authorities read on Wednesday.
“The child’s grandmother had left the child in the child safety seat in the back seat of her car since about 8:30 this morning, according to the results of a preliminary investigation. The grandma discovered the toddler unresponsive at around 4 p.m.
This occurs just one day after another suspected heat-related hot car incident in Corpus Christi resulted in the death of a 22-month-old toddler.
“The incident is being worked as a criminal homicide,” police stated. “The Texas Rangers from the Department of Public Safety are assisting the Beeville police.” Although no charges have been brought in relation to this matter as of yet, they are anticipated to be.”
In 2024, children in the United States have perished in hot cars in at least 25 further cases, according to Kids and Car Safety. With 156 kid deaths from 1990 to 2023 as a result of overheated automobiles, Texas has the highest number of these deaths.
This case is still being looked into.
