Tennessee Most Wanted Fugitive Nabbed; Killed a Man and Kept his Body in Freezer in Remote Area: Authorities

A fugitive on Tennessee’s most wanted list has been apprehended in connection with the death of a man who had been missing for several months. The victim’s remains were discovered in a buried freezer on a secluded 17-acre property in a remote part of the state.

A man named Jim Chambers, aged 37, has been arrested in Louisiana for the death of Edward Elliott, aged 64, according to a news release from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). The Carter County Sheriff’s Office and TBI were searching for him in connection with charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence.

The case was discovered when the police initiated an investigation into a missing person on March 31. Elliott was reportedly last seen in the Roan Mountain area in late January or early February, according to a missing person poster. A concerned family member reported him missing during that time. Elliott is described as being 5-foot-10 and weighing 250 pounds.

The victim was last seen wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt with cut-off sleeves. Authorities stated that his ability to return safely without assistance could be impaired due to a medical condition he had been suffering from.

Officials received information and conducted a search on May 15 at a location in Hampton. During the search, a specially trained dog detected the odor of a decomposing body. A freezer containing Elliott’s remains was found on the ground.

“During a news conference, Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley revealed that a small freezer had been exhumed, and a human body was discovered inside,” Fraley stated.

According to an affidavit, a witness reported observing two individuals engaging in a violent assault on Elliott while the victim pleaded with them in either January or February, as reported by local CBS/ABC affiliate WJHL.

The defendant is set to be extradited from Louisiana to Carter County, while the second individual will have a preliminary hearing on June 5.
