Teens Stole Car and Led To High-Speed Police Chase; Pregnant Teen Lost Baby after Gunfire in Wisconsin
An 18-year-old who was pregnant suffered the loss of her unborn baby after a Milwaukee police officer fired at a stolen vehicle involved in two carjackings. The incident occurred during a police chase on Thursday afternoon, according to the city’s police chief.
Another individual, aged 17, was also injured in the incident on the interstate.
According to Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey B. Norman, the stolen SUV was involved in a pursuit after police attempted to stop it. The vehicle ended up getting stuck in a construction zone and collided with a police vehicle before the officer discharged their weapon.
An 18-year-old was in critical condition at a hospital, and tragically, her unborn baby did not survive, according to Norman.
The condition of a 17-year-old male was described as serious, according to Norman. He referred to them as suspects.
According to Norman, there were six individuals in the vehicle, two of whom were shot as per NBC News.
According to Norman, there were also four other individuals in the vehicle, including a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy, a 16-year-old boy, and an 18-year-old woman. They were all transported to a hospital for minor injuries.
The police pursuit began in the afternoon and came to a halt when the stolen vehicle encountered a construction zone on Interstate 43, where it was obstructed by roadwork and a cement truck, according to Norman. A Milwaukee police officer issued instructions to cease and for the individuals within to exit, as per his statement.
The driver of the vehicle reversed and collided with a marked squad car. The driver of the vehicle moved both forward and backward. A police officer was positioned behind the vehicle during that time,” Norman stated.
“During the incident, another officer fired their weapon at the vehicle, hitting two suspects,” he stated.
The police officer who fired remains unidentified, but according to Norman, he is a 25-year-old man with over four years of service. He will be assigned to administrative duty, which Norman mentioned is a standard procedure following a shooting.
The investigation is being led by the West Allis police, according to the statement.
According to Norman, a firearm was discovered in the stolen vehicle. The investigation is also looking into the roles of those in the vehicle, according to him.
Norman mentioned that the release of any body-worn video is imminent.
All six individuals in the vehicle were apprehended and charges have been sent to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office, according to the police. The identities of those involved have not been disclosed.
