Teens Overdosed on Mushrooms at Florida Beach; Two Arrested for Selling LSD-laced Mushrooms: Sheriff

Two children, aged 12 and 14, are in critical condition after consuming psilocybin mushrooms that were contaminated with LSD, as reported by Indian River County Sheriff’s deputies.

Authorities stated that the suspect was fully aware of his actions when he willingly engaged in the sale of drugs to a minor, with the knowledge that multiple children would consume them. However, to his surprise, shortly after their meeting at South County Park in Vero Beach, the two children found themselves in the emergency room, experiencing intense screams and loss of bodily control.

Authorities swiftly apprehended two individuals believed to be responsible for the incident within a mere four hours. The suspects have been identified as Kenneth Morris Jr., aged 27, and Jamaurie Morris, aged 22.

According to deputies, one of the juveniles reached out to Kenneth through a messaging app called Telegram, setting up a meeting at the park on Tuesday morning to buy psychedelic mushrooms.

He is selling this to individuals who are clearly underage. “We have not only charged them with the sale and possession, but we have also brought charges of child abuse,” stated Indian River County Sheriff Eric Flowers.

Based on the police report, the boys were quickly taken to the ER after consuming the mushrooms. According to reports, both individuals required assistance from hospital staff to be restrained and sedated.

The younger victim, who has autism, unfortunately reached a point where he could no longer breathe independently and required intubation.

The two individuals were subsequently moved to different medical facilities to receive more focused care.

“The situation was extremely critical, requiring the children to be transferred to specialized hospitals for intensive care. They had to be intubated due to the severity of their condition, which was caused by the consumption of certain mushrooms,” Flowers explained.

Meanwhile, deputies utilized the victim’s phone to contact Kenneth and arrange a simulated drug transaction. According to Flowers, Kenneth was a passenger while Jamaurie drove to the meeting place, which happened to be near the park.

“The authorities noted that the mushrooms seized from the dealer had a distinct and unusual quality, indicating that there was something peculiar about them,” Flowers remarked.

The report reveals that the drugs yielded positive results for psilocybin, psilocin, and LSD.

“We are relieved to have apprehended these individuals,” Flowers stated. “I strongly advise against considering Indian River County as a suitable location for this.”

Kenneth is currently facing multiple felony charges, including aggravated child abuse, sale or delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or deliver a controlled substance, unlawful use of a two-way communication device, possession of synthetic cannabinoids, and possession of marijuana exceeding twenty grams. The individual is currently in custody at the Indian River County Jail, with a total bond amounting to $225,000 as per CBS12 News.

Jamaurie faces charges for allegedly selling or delivering a controlled substance. He is currently out on bond.
