Miami Standard (Pomona, CA) – Tragic facts are coming to light in the Pomona brutal wrong-way crash that claimed the lives of two adult sisters, a baby, and a driver accused of operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs or alcohol.
A CHP representative stated that the collision on 22 March was initially reported on the westbound 60 Freeway close to Reservoir Street at approximately 11 p.m.
According to the spokesman, the wrong-way motorist struck the victims’ Honda Civic and another car while travelling east in the westbound lanes.
Rachel Moreno, 39, and her sister, 29-year-old Jazmin Guadalupe Ramos, were pronounced dead at the scene. Three days later, on March 25, Jazmin’s 1-year-old son Ezra passed away from his wounds after being taken to the hospital.
Rick Rodriguez, a 24-year-old wrong-way driver, is suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He was taken by paramedics to the hospital, where he passed away the next day.
KTLA was able to collect video from the site, which shows several damaged cars, including one that landed on top of the centre median of the roadway.
The loss of the two sisters and cherished Ezra has left devastated family members in Huntington Park, who want to remain anonymous. The eldest sister, Rachel, was a mother as well and left behind children.
