Store Evacuated after Grenade Spotted in the Donated Furniture in Norfolk

Norfolk, Virginia: Workers at a thrift store evacuated the building on Monday after finding a non-functional grenade inside a donated piece of furniture.

Around 1 p.m., firefighters and the bomb squad were called to Thrift Store USA on East Little Creek Road, according to a Norfolk Fire-Rescue spokesperson.

While emptying a drawer after receiving a dropped piece of furniture, staff discovered a grenade inside. The bomb squad cleared the store’s occupants while they assessed if it was still operational.

According to fire officials, they used an X-ray machine to confirm that the grenade was real but not live.

The Bomb Squad assured the employees and the nearby residents. The store was once again open at 3:30 p.m.
