State of Illinois Unclaimed Property Auction Goes Live Next Week

State of Illinois Unclaimed Property Auction Goes Live Next Week

From next Monday on, the State of Illinois will hold an auction for unclaimed properties across the state.

A Spanish Milled Dollar from 1783, a U.S. quarter-ounce platinum-proof coin from 1997, and a 14-karat gold charm bracelet with eight pieces will all be for sale.

They are some of the hundreds of things of lost property that can be found online from June 17 to June 21.

Private groups have tried for years to find the owner of items before giving them to the Treasurer’s Office.

State Treasurer Michael Frerichs, whose office is in charge of Illinois’s unclaimed property, said, “The online auction makes it easy for people to shop from anywhere and find a wide range of unique items they can add to their own collections or give as the perfect gift. There is not enough room to store the things forever, so they are being sold at auction.”

People will also be able to bid in person at the Illinois State Fair on August 17 as per Fox32 Chicago.

The state says that all auction proceeds will be given to the legal owners, no matter how long it takes.
