South Florida to Experience Intense Downpours, Possible Flood Watch as Rainy Week Ahead

South Florida to Experience Intense Downpours, Possible Flood Watch as Rainy Week Ahead

There will be a change in weather patterns over the next few days, which will bring multiple days of locally heavy rainfall to South Florida and the Keys.

Although May was predominantly hot and dry, it resulted in an increasing drought situation throughout South Florida.

Despite being a common occurrence in mid to late-May, the rainy season was delayed this year. Last Thursday, South Florida found itself in the grip of a moderate to severe drought.

However, the showers and storms expected this week could potentially alleviate the dry conditions, although there is a concern that it might be an excessive amount of precipitation in a short period of time.

Expect a surge of moist, tropical air to sweep through the region in the coming days, resulting in multiple episodes of intense rainfall.

It is still early to determine the specific regions that will experience the most intense rainfall, but precipitation amounts could reach 7 to 10 inches between Tuesday and Saturday.

There may be thunderstorms along with intermittent downpours this week, but there is no expectation of widespread severe weather as per NBC Miami.

Although it is not currently in effect, there are indications that conditions may lead to the issuance of a Flood Watch for parts of South Florida on Monday or Tuesday.
