Son Fatally Beats Father After Argument Over Couch Accident, Police Say

Miamistandard– According to the authorities in Wisconsin, a man from the state is in jail for killing his father over an argument over hygiene.

According to a press statement from the Nekoosa Police Department, Jason W. Tourtillott, 26, has been charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the death of Thomas S. Tourtillott, 58.

The court records provided more information about the accused parricide.

On July 22, 2021, an officer responded to a 911 call regarding a guy who was not breathing and did not have a pulse. The incident took place at a house on Crestview Lane in Nekoosa, a small town located around 120 miles west of Green Bay.

According to a criminal complaint received by Law&Crime, Jason Tourtillott met the detective at the door and escorted him to his father, who was laying on the floor in a “middle room” of the residence.

The two of them walked past the kitchen on their approach to the unconscious man. It is claimed that the defendant pointed at a red stain on the wall at that location. Jason Tourtillott stated that the substance was chili.

The detective received an apology from the son.

He is supposed to have made the statement, “I’m sorry, that’s chili.”

The police and emergency medical technicians attempted to conduct CPR on the victim, but it was unsuccessful. The complaint states that the police and the EMTs observed trauma to the head, face, and neck area of the older Tourtillott at the same time. The man had lacerations above each eye that were still bleeding, and there were signs of bruises beginning to form.

According to the court statement, “[Thomas Tourtillott] also had a small circular hole behind his right ear that appeared to be bleeding.” “[Thomas Tourtillott]’s body and the area around it in the living room were covered in a lot of blood.”

After the victim was taken to the kitchen, the deputy coroner came at the site and declared the person dead. According to the lawsuit, Thomas Tourtillott did not have a heartbeat at any point throughout the approximately 25 minutes that CPR was being administered.

According to the authorities, the defendant “provided several inconsistent statements” during two conversations with law enforcement.

Jason Tourtillot is said to have given a number of conflicting responses regarding the fact that his father was not wearing a shirt. At one point, he claimed that he did not know that the shirt had been taken off, and at another point, he claimed that he did not believe that he had taken off his father’s shirt. He is also believed to have said that he was likely the one who tore the shirt off, but he could not recall where he had put it.

The defendant also informed the police that he was asleep from around 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the day in issue, but he was evasive when asked to explain the activity on his cellphone at around 5 p.m. that day.

The defendant is claimed to have brought up the subject of his father’s drinking during the first questioning, claiming that he drank too much. This was brought up when the son explained that he was not worried at first when he spotted his father on the floor since the elder man “lays wherever he has been drinking.”

The complaint continues, “The defendant was asked about the blood on his body and the injuries he had during this interview.” The defendant said that he rinsed the blood off of his neck and chest in the washroom at the Nekoosa Police Department. The defendant said that the scratches on his legs and arm were caused by the cat when he was asked about them.

When investigators asked the defendant if he had been drinking, he supposedly replied, “no.”

According to the authorities, during his second questioning, the defendant made additional negative comments about his father’s drinking habits. That was when the chili was brought up again.

From the complaint in detail:

On that day, Thomas Tourtillott prepared chili for lunch. He said that while [Thomas Tourtillott] was walking to the couch, he sort of fell and spilled the chili. Before the defendant went to sleep, they said that the chili was on the wall. According to the defendant, [Thomas Tourtillott] did not hurt himself in any way during this occurrence. The defendant also discussed his connection with [Thomas Tourtillott] and repeatedly denied that he had ever had any kind of quarrel or physical fight with [Thomas Tourtillott]. The defendant said, “No sir, I loved my dad and my dad loved me,” when questioned whether there had been a physical altercation. The defendant continued by saying that he and [Thomas Tourtillott] had a genuine father-son relationship.

Later on, the police met with the defendant’s sister, who stated that her brother did drink and that he frequently grew angry when he did.

The sister remembered that her brother had been watching her son and that she had been at the house twice that day, which was the same day that their father died. She stated that the defendant appeared “upset” during the second visit, which took place at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The sister informed the detectives that both the father and the son were not wearing shirts. She stated that her father was not typically found lying unconscious on the ground.

“She said that the defendant was ‘crabby,'” she said. The complaint states. When questioned whether the defendant said anything about [their father] being on the ground, she answered, “Um, he said something about like this stupid f—er ah spilled his chili or couldn’t walk, something to that effect.” [The sister] made it clear that the defendant called [their father] a “stupid f—er.”

Following that, the cops had a conversation with the sister’s son. The nephew of the defendant remembered hearing the two men “yelling” at each other and that he woke up to the sound of them fighting.

According to the complaint, the youngster claimed that he was upstairs and therefore could not see his uncle and grandfather, but he did hear the defendant remark something to the effect of, “Why did you have an accident on my couch?”

The victim responded by saying, “I don’t know,” and claimed that it was “an accident.” According to the complaint, the defendant allegedly responded by saying that it was not an accident. After that, the youngster supposedly heard his grandfather say “owie” and his uncle respond with “Why did you do that?” and then there was a sound like a smack.

The defendant claimed that he had performed CPR on his father for 30 minutes, but a review of the 911 call he made indicated that he was not out of breath or showing any other signs of physical exertion.

The police claim that the defendant killed his father by hitting him on the head multiple times.

Jason Tourtillott is being held in the Wood County Jail right now. He has a cash bail set at $1 million.
