Simone Biles and Team USA Draw 12.7 Million Viewers for Olympic Victory
The U.S. women’s gymnastics team has truly won over the nation, as evidenced by the impressive television ratings.
According to a press release from NBC, the recent victory of Simone Biles and Team USA gymnastics garnered a significant viewership of 12.7 million on NBC and Peacock. This remarkable turnout makes it one of the most-watched Olympic events on a weekday in the history of the network.
The gymnastics team competition was broadcasted from 12:15 to 2:30 p.m. ET, starting a bit earlier than usual.
The Olympics have been attracting a significant number of viewers for this summer’s games, with Team USA’s golden moment surpassing the viewership of even some of the most popular domestic sporting events of the year.
According to Sports Business Journal, the viewership numbers for this event surpassed the audiences of every game in the NBA Finals and the first day of the NFL draft.
The Americans once again showcased their unrivaled dominance in gymnastics, with Biles, Jordan Chiles, Suni Lee, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera leading the way.
Biles solidified her status as the greatest of all time in the sport, earning her eighth medal and becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history.
