Shoplifting call leads to police chase and catastrophic rollover incident on I-70

Kansas City, Missouri – A lady was injured and later arrested following a police chase and rollover incident on Interstate 70 on Monday afternoon.

The Sugar Creek Police Department said that just before 12:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to a Dollar Tree on 24 Highway for reports of shoplifting.

When officers arrived and approached the suspect, she jumped into her minivan and put it in reverse before escaping, striking a Sugar Creek patrol car several times and nearly hitting the cops before driving away, according to police.

According to authorities, the assault prompted a chase on I-70, during which stop sticks were used to “partially” disable the minivan.

The driver attempted to exit onto The Paseo but lost control and rolled over, according to authorities.

Around the same time as the incident, at 12:49 p.m., KC Scout cameras captured footage of a vehicle on the highway shoulder near the Paseo exit, flanked by many police cars.

Police said the car overturned on its side and caught fire before Kansas City firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames.

Sugar Creek police said the woman driving the minivan was detained on the spot and sent to the hospital for treatment.

FOX4 is working to find out what charges the woman will face.
