Miami Standard (Alabama) – A number of Alabama school systems are delaying classes or canceling school on Monday morning due to the threat of severe weather.
According to the National Weather Service, an enhanced risk for severe storms will affect a large portion of Alabama starting late Sunday night, continuing through the overnight hours and into Monday. The severe weather threat includes tornadoes, near hurricane-force winds, hail, and heavy rainfall.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Level 3 out of 5 (or enhanced) risk for severe weather to cover most of northern and parts of central Alabama. The potential for damaging storms has prompted school officials across the state to adjust schedules for safety.
