Severe Illnesses Prompt Nationwide Warning Against Diamond Shruumz Edibles by FDA; Alleged Presence of THC to be Blamed
Consumers are being urged by the Arizona Department of Health Services and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to avoid consuming Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies due to numerous reports of severe illness in eight states.
FOX 10 Phoenix reported that the affected products have been associated with symptoms like seizures, hallucinations, and loss of consciousness. Health officials have been faced with a significant number of cases that demand immediate attention. In Arizona alone, there have been six cases that have prompted the department to issue a warning.
At first, there were eight illnesses reported from four states. However, the FDA has now identified a total of 12 reported cases with 10 hospitalizations across eight states, as reported by Redding.com. The products, available for purchase both online and in select retail locations across the country, are said to include a combination of nootropic and functional mushrooms.
These treats, which claim to contain ingredients like cannabidiol (CBD) or delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (delta-8 THC), have not been approved by the FDA as reported by Hoodline.
The agency has also stressed the importance of promptly and safely disposing of the products, as their ingredients may be inaccurately listed, posing a potential risk to consumer health.
Redding.com released a report detailing the various symptoms that can occur after consuming Diamond Shruumz products. In addition to seizures and central nervous system depression, patients have also reported feeling restless, experiencing irregular heart rates, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, and feeling nauseous or vomiting.
Although there have been no reported deaths associated with these products, it is important for anyone who experiences illness to promptly seek medical attention and reach out to the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.
