Several Individuals Facing Federal Charges For Firearms And Drug Offenses in Georgia

Atlanta, GA: Recent indictments in the Southern District of Georgia involve serious charges related to illegal firearms possession and drug distribution. In addition, some defendants have already been sentenced to federal prison or are awaiting further proceedings after pleading guilty to federal gun charges.

Two individuals from Savannah have been identified in a recently revealed January indictment.

Jacerio Maurice Famble, 35, and Aaron Jamonta Bennett, 32, are facing charges related to the possession and distribution of Psilocyn and Marijuana. Famble is facing additional charges related to firearm possession, including possession of a firearm in connection with a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Daveon Daniels, a 25-year-old resident of Grovetown, Georgia, has been charged with Illegal Possession of a Machinegun and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Matthew Lacey, a 26-year-old resident of Savannah, has been charged in a superseding indictment with the offense of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. In November 2023, he was initially indicted on the same charge. The superseding indictment now includes enhanced penalties.

Justin Anthony Brown, a 32-year-old resident of Augusta, has been charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Here are the individuals who have recently been convicted of federal firearms charges:

Jonathan Duncan, a 38-year-old resident of Savannah, has been sentenced to 64 months in prison. This comes after he pleaded guilty to the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. During a routine traffic stop in November 2022, Savannah police officers discovered a pistol and drugs in Duncan’s vehicle. In his guilty plea, it was mentioned that Duncan has a previous state conviction for illegal gun possession.

Keith Ponsell, a 34-year-old resident of Jesup, Georgia, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison. This comes after he pleaded guilty to the charge of Possession of an Unregistered Firearm. In June 2022, during a traffic stop in Jesup, a Georgia State Patrol trooper discovered an unauthorized “pen” gun in Ponsell’s possession.

William Zaccaeus Hightower, a 24-year-old resident of Blackshear, Ga., is currently awaiting sentencing following his guilty plea for charges related to drug possession and possession of a machinegun. In May 2022, during an attempted traffic stop, Hightower’s vehicle collided with a police vehicle and crashed. Pierce County sheriff’s deputies discovered a pistol and drugs in Hightower’s vehicle. ATF agents discovered that the Glock 9mm pistol found in Hightower’s possession had been modified to function as a fully automatic weapon.

Christopher David Baskett, 46, from Augusta, is currently awaiting sentencing following his guilty plea for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. In September 2020, Baskett was apprehended by Richmond County sheriff’s deputies during their investigation into reports of gunfire in downtown Augusta. Following an initial altercation, law enforcement officers discovered a firearm in Baskett’s vehicle. Baskett has a previous conviction for voluntary manslaughter in South Carolina.
