Several Code Violations Reported at Lancaster General Hospital by the Pennsylvania Department of Health

Lancaster, PA: A surprise examination at Lancaster General Hospital revealed that the medical facility breached many state regulations.

The report, issued Monday, shows a number of distinct health code breaches discovered during an unannounced inspection on Nov. 21 in response to a complaint.

During the inspection and subsequent inquiry, the health authorities decided that the hospital did not comply with state health codes.

The department discovered various concerns, including LGH’s failure to ensure the availability of sterile equipment for scheduled surgeries. Several instances of operation delays or cancellations are detailed in the study.

The report also describes the hospital’s intentions to address the issues. These actions include extra training, policy modifications, hiring an outside consulting firm to assist with the issues, and employing more people.

A spokesperson from the Lancaster General Hospital made a public appearance and said, “Patient safety is an essential cornerstone of care across Lancaster General Health. Our plan of correction demonstrates how seriously we take this commitment. We are fully cooperating with the Pennsylvania Department of Health in connection with this matter.”
