Septuagenarian Should Head for Death Row after he Killed Court Employee and Police Officer who served him Notice of Eviction: Missouri Prosecutors
Prosecutors in Missouri announced on Wednesday their intention to pursue the death penalty for a man from the Kansas City area. The man is facing murder charges for the deaths of a court employee and a police officer. The court employee had attempted to serve an eviction notice, while the police officer had responded to the situation.
A 70-year-old man from Independence is facing accusations of shooting a court employee and two police officers, one of whom tragically lost their life. Officers exchanged gunfire with Acree before apprehending him. Acree sustained minor injuries during the incident.
The office of Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has filed a notice with the court, indicating that the state will present evidence of aggravating circumstances that justify the imposition of the death penalty. Acree faces a total of 18 charges, including two counts of first-degree murder.

As per court documents, it was found that Acree had outstanding taxes from as early as 2019. Last August, the new owner purchased his 9-acre (3.6-hectare) property and three-bedroom home for $260,000, taking care of the taxes as well. An eviction notice was posted at the property in February, and authorities have stated that Acree did not have the legal right to be there.
During a short hearing on Wednesday, Acree’s attorney, Edward Berrigan from the Missouri State Public Defender’s office, requested a continuance. The purpose was to allow the public defenders who specialize in death penalty cases to be reassigned, as reported by the Kansas City Star.
Acree’s upcoming court appearance is scheduled for July 10 in Independence, a suburb of Kansas City that is home to approximately 122,000 residents.
There are currently eleven individuals awaiting execution in Missouri.
