Semi-Truck Fatally Hit Fleeing Suspect in West Side Police Pursuit
Chicago: A man died after he collided with a semi-truck on Tuesday afternoon. The man was allegedly trying to escape from police.
The accident happened on the West side of the city. As per the police briefing, the officials were observing a vehicle that was reported stolen. Around 2:30 p.m., police say, a 24-year-old man got out of a stolen car that was parked in front of a business in the 800 block of South Cicero Avenue.
The officers tried to stop the vehicle for an investigation, but the driver abandoned the car and ran away. He ran onto the road and was struck by a semi-truck.
The crash proved fatal for the man as he passed away in the hospital while receiving treatment.
The semi-truck that hit the man, according to the police, did not stop. The CPD Major Accidents Investigation Unit is looking into the incident.
According to officers, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA) is looking into the matter. The officers involved will be put on routine administrative duties for 30 days as per the law.
