Seattle Woman Killed in Metro Bus Crash: Driver was High on Fentanyl; Pleads Guilty
Seattle, WA- A Seattle resident has confessed to driving while under the influence of fentanyl and has now pleaded guilty to charges related to a fatal crash. The incident occurred last year when a woman lost her life while waiting at a crosswalk.
Adam Rueben Abelson, 32, has admitted to the charges of vehicular homicide DUI, and driving without a license. The documents were filed on July 31 in King County Superior Court.
According to authorities, Abelson was driving at a high speed on 5th Avenue in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood when he disregarded a red light at Battery Street and crashed into a Metro bus.
A tragic accident occurred when a bus veered off the road and collided with Amanda Joelle Schneider, a 28-year-old individual.
Tragically, Schneider lost her life while waiting for the light to change at the crosswalk.
Investigators discovered drug paraphernalia in Abelson’s car during the time of the crash. Abelson confessed in the plea agreement that he was under the influence of fentanyl and had consumed cocaine before the accident.
Based on the agreement, prosecutors are suggesting a sentence of 158 months.
Abelson’s sentencing is set to take place in September at King County Superior Court.
Before the accident, court records show that Abelson had a significant criminal history, with over 50 warrants and convictions for criminal traffic offenses, theft, and eluding police.
