School Teacher Arrested after He Slept with 15-year-old Student in Rowan County

Miami Standard (Rowan County, NC) – A former teacher from Rowan County was taken into custody on Thursday, March 27, following allegations of engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student over the past three months.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office reports that 25-year-old Christyan Alfonso Cabrera, who taught world history at West Rowan High School, is under investigation following a notification to a school resource officer regarding an alleged inappropriate relationship involving an employee and a student.

Authorities report that Cabrera engaged in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old student in his classroom during a time when it was unoccupied. Additionally, officials allege that he engaged in other inappropriate behaviours with the student on school premises, with incidents reported between January 9 and March 19, 2025.

Rowan-Salisbury Schools has announced that Cabrera is no longer with the district.

Investigators obtained arrest warrants for: 

  • Committing a Crime Against Nature, 
  • Statutory Rape of a Child, 
  • Statutory Sex Offense with a Child, and 
  • Performing a Sex Act with a Student. 

Cabrera was taken into custody on Thursday shortly after 3 p.m. and is currently held at the Rowan County Detention Centre without bond. He is set to make his initial court appearance on Friday, March 28.

RSS provided the following statement:

We are deeply troubled by this news and understand that it may be upsetting to students and families. Our school counseling staff is available to students who need support. We encourage anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
