San Francisco’s Tenderloin Drug Bust: 9 Face Trial For Selling Drugs To Undercover Agents
San Francisco, CA: Authorities made a successful attempt when 9 individuals were arraigned on Thursday for suspected drug dealing in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, according to prosecutors.
This comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug sales. As per District Attorney Brooke Jenkins’ office, it is alleged that each individual sold drugs to undercover San Francisco police officers.
Five out of the nine suspects are accused of participating in drug dealing while being released on their own recognizance in other felony narcotics cases.
All nine individuals entered pleas of not guilty in response to the charges against them. “The presence of open-air drug markets in the Tenderloin and SOMA raises significant concerns regarding public safety. All levels of government must collaborate in order to safeguard the community and ensure the well-being of the public,” Jenkins emphasized.
At Thursday’s arraignments, the DA’s office made a motion to keep seven of the defendants in custody until trial, expressing concerns about public safety.
Six of the suspects had their motions to detain granted without prejudice by the court, while bail was set for the seventh. In a recent development, the court has decided to release two suspects.
An individual has been given electronic monitoring, search conditions, and a directive to maintain a distance of at least 150 yards from Ellis and Hyde Streets. A restraining order was issued, requiring the other person to maintain a distance of at least 150 yards from Eddy and Larkin Streets.

In recent months, local and state law enforcement agencies have increased their efforts to address drug sales in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods.
Officials provided an update in late December, revealing that almost 700 individuals had been apprehended for drug sales in the two neighborhoods since the initiation of the crackdown. During that timeframe, authorities confiscated a significant amount of narcotics, weighing in at 326 pounds.
Among the seized drugs, 176 pounds were identified as fentanyl. The data does not encompass arrests and seizures beyond the two neighborhoods or the initiatives undertaken by federal agencies.
