San Diego, CA – Parking fees have increased at select meters and pay stations along San Diego Bay, with additional rate hikes set to take effect on July 1, according to the Port of San Diego.
Officials say the adjustments, ranging from $1 to $2.50 per hour, aim to improve parking space turnover, ensuring more visitors and residents can access the waterfront. This marks the first increase since 2017, with the maximum rate of $2.50 per hour still among the lowest in major California cities.
New Parking Rates:
- Spanish Landing Park: Increased from $1 to $2 per hour; will rise to $2.50 on July 1.
- Embarcadero Marina Parks North & South: Increased from $1.75 to $2.50 per hour.
- Shelter Island: Increased from $1.25 to $2.25 per hour; will rise to $2.50 on July 1.
Enforcement hours remain in place, with most areas maintaining three- or four-hour time limits. However, over 1,200 free parking spaces are still available at Shelter Island, and parking is free before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. at certain locations.
The following 10 parks include free parking for 10 holidays:
- Chula Vista in the Barrio Logan neighborhood;
- Chula Vista Bayfront, Chula Vista Bayside;
- Chula Vista Marina View;
- Coronado Ferry Landing;
- Coronado Tidelands;
- Grand Caribe Shoreline in Coronado;
- Harbor Island;
- Pepper Park on the National City Bayfront;
- Shoreline on Shelter Island;
- Sweetwater on the Chula Vista Bayfront.
The Port of San Diego, which relies on parking revenue for maintenance and public services, emphasized that these changes align with city-metered parking rates and reduce confusion for drivers.
For those seeking longer-term parking, options are available at locations such as the B Street Pier, Navy Pier, and the San Diego Convention Center garage.
Despite the price increases, free parking will remain available at ten parks during ten designated holidays.
