Manchester, NH (MSN) – On Thursday morning, a severe collision involving several cars on Manchester’s Interstate 293 claimed one life.
The collision happened on the northbound side of the highway between Brown Avenue and South Willow Street shortly before 8:30 a.m.
According to the State Police, a Cadillac and a Ford pickup vehicle collided. John Vangelder, a 72-year-old Salem resident, was killed after being flung from the pickup truck. According to authorities, the other car’s driver is assisting investigators.

The other driver is reportedly not injured. The identity of the other driver has not been revealed by the authorities.
Lane closures at the incident site for several hours caused heavy traffic backlogs. The freeway was fully reopened before 11:30 a.m.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated, state police said.
