Sale of Recreational Marijuana in Ohio Gets Green Flag as 10 Firms get Licenses for Sales
Ohio has recently granted its inaugural licenses for the sale of recreational marijuana.
On Friday, the Division of Cannabis Control issued the initial batch of dual-use certificates of operation to 10 cultivators and processors throughout the state. There are four located in Northeast Ohio.
Currently, the state has not issued any certificates of operation to dispensaries for the sale of recreational marijuana.
The Division of Cannabis Control spokesperson stated that there is no specific date for the commencement of recreational sales.
Approximately 216 businesses are currently waiting for a dual-use license to enter the adult-use market, according to the state.
10 marijuana growers and processors have been granted certificates of operation, allowing them to begin operations in the recreational cannabis market. A processor in Toledo, GTI Ohio LLC, also known as Green Thumb Industries, has recently obtained certification as a large-scale, dual-use cultivator and dual-use processor.
Businesses that have been granted provisional licenses must fulfill compliance and operational requirements by September 7 in order to obtain their certificates of operation as reported by Wtol News.
The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control emphasized the importance of prioritizing licensing for cultivators, processors, and testing labs over licensing for dispensaries. This approach aims to establish a streamlined supply chain and guarantee the availability of non-medical marijuana products for adult consumers once dispensaries receive their certificates of operation.
