Rapper Shot Dead after Heated Argument in Philadelphia, made a song about Gun Violence few days back

Philadelphia, PA: Authorities confirmed that a rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who went by the name Phat Geez, was shot dead on Sunday.

Police arrived at the scene of a shooting in the Brewerytown neighborhood of North Philadelphia just after 10 p.m. on Sunday, March 17. They discovered Phat Geez, whose real name is Derrick Gant, lying wounded on the street, having sustained several bullet wounds.

He was transferred to a local hospital, where he was declared dead around 10:30 p.m., according to the police statement.

In response to Gant’s passing, Philadelphia resident and rapper Meek Mill wrote, “Philly is a terrible place for Black people to live…you see too much death!!!!” on social media.

His family informed CBS News that Gant’s new single, “No Gunzone,” called for an end to gun violence in Philadelphia. On his social media accounts, Meek Mill further pushed the tune.

In addition to the multiple handgun cartridge casings discovered at the scene, CBS News stated that a video of the shooting appeared to show that “Gant had an interaction with a person or people inside a vehicle on Taney Street just before he was killed,” however, the Philadelphia police were unable to officially confirm these details.
