CHP: Prius Driver Dead After Collision With a Semi on H-99

Bakersfield, California: An early-morning collision near Bakersfield on Wednesday claimed the life of a 43-year-old Atascadero man. The collision occurred on northbound Highway 99 just south of Highway 119 shortly before 3:30 in the morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the Atascadero man’s Prius was rear-ended by a semi-truck. Following the collision, the Prius driver was declared dead at the site. The collided vehicles came to rest on the highway’s right shoulder.

It’s unclear whether the Prius was stopped on the right shoulder or in the slow lane when the two cars collided, but authorities say the semi-truck driver was moving at around 55 mph in the slow lane at the time of the accident.

The authorities have not revealed the identity of the victim. As per the CHP, It was raining at the time when the collision happened. The California Highway Patrol has opened a probe into the matter.
