A 23-year-old man has been accused by Dakota County officials of committing the gruesome act of killing and dismembering his pregnant sister in Lakeville last week.
Jack Joseph Ball of Lakeville has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder in relation to the tragic incident that resulted in the loss of his sister, identified as 30-year-old Bethany Israel of Bloomington, and her unborn child last Thursday evening.
“The allegations in this case are extremely troubling and shocking. Our law enforcement partners were faced with an unimaginable situation during the investigation,” commented Dakota County Attorney Kathy Keena. “Our office is committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victims and that the necessary support is provided to their family.”
Ball’s bail has been set at $2 million without conditions and $1 million with conditions. According to officials, once he receives medical clearance, Ball will be moved to the Dakota County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court again on June 10 in Hastings.
The maximum sentence for second-degree murder is 40 years in prison.
As per the criminal complaint, the family members of Israel grew worried when she failed to return home after having dinner with her brother at a residence in Lakeville. One of them drove to the residence and noticed Ball swiftly departing from the scene.
Upon entering the home, the family member was confronted with a distressing sight – a significant amount of blood. Without hesitation, they immediately contacted the authorities for assistance. Officers who arrived at the scene discovered a gruesome sight – bloody knives and various dismembered body parts. According to the complaint, these items were suspected to be from Israel.
According to police, an alert was issued for Ball’s vehicle, which was quickly found in Rosemount.
According to the complaint, officers were searching for Ball when a resident from Rosemount noticed on their home security camera that a man had placed something that looked like a body part on their front step. Ball was found in the backyard of a neighboring home after a short search.
According to the complaint, Ball had a self-inflicted wound to his neck. He was transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Israel’s death has been determined by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner to be the result of “complex homicidal violence.” It has been confirmed that Israel is currently in the second trimester of pregnancy.
