Police Officer Forced Victim to Remove Clothes and Perform Explicit Acts while On Duty; Charged in California

The federal Department of Justice says that a former officer with the Sanger Police Department is now being charged with more sexual assault-related civil rights violations. This comes after he was charged in federal court for a number of sexual assaults.

Judges say that J. Deshawn Torrence, 40, from Corcoran, will be charged with an extra count of depriving a person of their constitutional rights under cover of law for sexually assaulting a woman he met while working as a police officer.

According to court records, Torrence was charged with engaging in sexual conduct with a victim without their consent while doing his job as a police officer in July 2022. This included telling a victim to take off her clothes without a valid reason to do so and forcing his victims to have sex acts.

The charges that were brought on Thursday include a second victim. The indictment says that Torrence assaulted the victim after locking her in his police car and driving her to a remote area.

According to the federal Department of Justice, Torrence could get life in jail and a $250,000 fine if he is found guilty of deprivation of rights under color of law resulting in bodily injury, including sexual abuse as per Yahoo News.

If he is found guilty of deprivation of rights under color of law, he could spend up to one year in prison and pay a $100,000 fine. If he is found guilty of deprivation of rights under color of law resulting in bodily damage, he could spend up to ten years in prison and pay a $250,000 fine.
