Police Arrested Man Accused of Killing Wife in Maryland

According to authorities, a man was taken into custody late on Saturday night after killing his estranged wife with a gun.

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Walkersville, Maryland resident Frederick Owusu Sakyi, 33. Just after 11 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the Giant Food located at 3530 Sugarloaf Parkway due to reports of gunfire.

When they got there, they discovered a woman deceased there. There are shops and restaurants in this crowded shopping complex.

The dead woman was identified as Tenisha Butler, 33, of Frederick. She used to work at Giant Food, as per the sheriff’s office.

In addition to security footage from the shopping center that might have captured the incident, authorities claimed that they were contacted by neighbors from surrounding dwellings. Eyewitnesses described the whole incident to the police. They said that the shooter arrived in a car.

Authorities started tracing Sakyi’s car based on information from witnesses. The authorities were able to track down the car as well as the suspect in less than 3 hours of the incident.

Sakyi’s car had an assault weapon on the back seat and a handgun on the front seat, according to deputies.

Giant Food confirmed the event that took place in the Urbana store’s parking lot “with deep sadness,” according to a statement.

Sakyi and Butler were going through a divorce, according to an early examination. The sheriff’s office stated that Sakyi has a history of stalking Butler and protective orders.

The police arrested Sakyi and he is now being held at Frederick County Adult Detention Center. It is not clear whether he is arrested on bond or not. The police have opened a [probe and the investigation of the cause of the shooting is underway.
