Marina Del Rey, CA: Multiple rounds were allegedly fired from the rooftop of an apartment building in Marina Del Rey on Saturday night, from which a suspect shooter is now in custody.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., in the 4100 block of Via Marina, the status of an active shooter alarm was reported to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol, and the Los Angeles Police Department.
Witnesses reported being evacuated from nearby buildings or instructed to seek shelter in place, as arriving deputies cordoned off surrounding streets.
The Pearl apartment building’s terrace, according to witnesses, was the source of dozens of gunfire.
While driving home from Downtown Los Angeles, Jacob, a witness who spoke to Key News Network on-camera at the site, received a phone call from his girlfriend informing him that she had heard multiple gunshots. “It was probably just fireworks,” Jacob assured his fiancée, adding, “No big deal.”
Approximately twenty gunshots were heard and emergency response vehicles were observed as Jacob, who resides in the apartment building adjacent to his fiancée, approached the location.
In the end, authorities apprehended the shooter. No injury has been reported so far by the authorities.
Thirty to fifty or more rounds were discharged, according to eyewitness statements to police. The assailant was armed with multiple firearms, including AR-15 rifles, multiple pistols, and ammunition.
The putative shooter, as reported by the City News Service, was engaging in livestreaming of the incident on various social media platforms.
South of Washington Boulevard, deputies cordoned off adjacent streets, including Marina and Dolce, and advised nearby residents to seek shelter in place, according to Sgt. Tim Gannon of the sheriff’s Marina del Rey station.
The suspect was ultimately apprehended at approximately 1:30 a.m., as reported by CNS.
As of early Sunday morning, the identity of the suspect has not been disclosed by authorities. The gunman, according to bystanders, is a self-employed chef of 41 years of age who specializes in “organic traditional Vietnamese cuisine.”
