Pet Food Recall: South Carolina-Based Viva Raw Issued Nation-wide Warning and Recall for Dog and Cat Food over Bacterial Contamination
Viva Raw, an online pet food subscription site, has issued a nationwide recall for a number of its products due to concerns of bacteria contamination.
A company in Hillsborough, North Carolina, is recalling five products from the same lot due to potential exposure to Listeria monocytogenes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that this poses a potential health risk to both people and pets.
The recalled products consist of Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground, Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked, Viva Turkey for Cats, Viva Pure Turkey, and Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies. All the products were made under Lot 21244.
The release states that the recalled products were distributed to customers in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Viva Raw offers a convenient online service for pet owners, delivering fresh dog and cat food right to their doorsteps. Customers can easily subscribe to a scheduled plan for added convenience. This information can be found on the company’s website.
Listeria was detected in the product Viva Turkey for Dogs during sample testing conducted by the FDA. There have been positive findings of bacteria in samples from Lot 21244. The company stated that all products from the same lot were intended for destruction, but some items were mistakenly released from the warehouse to customers.
