Pennsylvania Prosecutors Pushing for Death Penalty for the Alleged Mastermind Behind Year-Old Shooting Incident

Prosecutors in Pennsylvania have recently announced a criminal case against the suspected mastermind behind the tragic shooting incident that took place over a year ago.

Calvin Jay Huffman, 38, allegedly hired Antonyo Owens, who was 14 at the time, to carry out the murder of Anthony Jones, 38. Authorities claim that the motive behind this solicitation to commit murder was “revenge” and that drugs played a part in funding the crime.

During a press conference, Fayette County District Attorney Mike Aubele stated that there is an allegation that at the time of Anthony Jones’ murder, Huffman was involved in a dispute with the victim over narcotics. It is claimed that Huffman paid Owens a substantial amount of money and drugs to seek revenge against the victim.

The prosecutors have stated that they will be submitting a notice of aggravating circumstances against the Defendant. If he is found guilty, they will be pursuing the death penalty.

According to the Observer Reporter, authorities allege that Huffman provided the teenager with a sum of $5,000 in cash and three sizable bags of marijuana.

According to authorities, Jones was fatally shot by Owens near Cavalry Methodist Church in Uniontown at approximately 11:30 a.m. on June 6, 2023. The teenager was apprehended by authorities after a span of five days. According to prosecutors, Huffman is accused of making payments to individuals in order to conceal Owens from authorities, involving both money and drugs. A teenager has been charged as an adult and is facing a criminal homicide charge.

According to reports, someone who the police did not name came forward in March 2024 with digital proof that Owens had been paid in money and drugs to kill the person. DA Aubele said that the police used more proof, such as more witness accounts, cell phone data, and geolocation.

Investigators easily located Huffman. He has been incarcerated at the Bedford County Correctional Facility since April for reportedly abducting a Good Samaritan who came to his aid after Huffman was involved in a car accident.

Huffman, who was found guilty in a 2011 case for shooting a woman outside a bar, expressed his desire to avoid returning to jail and compelled a kind-hearted individual to drive him around, according to authorities. According to the Observer Reporter, authorities reported that the driver was able to reach safety after the defendant abandoned the truck at a Sheetz convenience store in Everett Borough.

On the other hand, Huffman reportedly engaged in altercations with other individuals and ultimately faced charges for assaulting another inmate during his time in jail.
